4 BOLD TRENDS TO TRY BEFORE SUMMER’S OVER

We’re already nearing the end of July and before you know it all the fun summer beauty trends we’ve been playing with will be replaced with brand new looks for fall. Yes, there are worse problems to have, but we still wouldn’t want you to miss out on a single beauty moment. So here are the trends to work into your beauty wardrobe before it’s too late.

Shimmering Eyes

Before you write off glitter as an absolute no-go, you must try this sophisticated approach to sparkle. In order to nail this trend, primer is a must. Hold every little spec of microfine sparkle in place with Tarte Clean Slate 360 Creaseless 12-hr Smoothing Eye Primer. Makeup artist Lily Marsh chose a champagne shimmer shadow (Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Sin) to complement the mesmerizing metallic brown of Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow in Diamond Dog. Then Marsh added even more dimension with a little L’Oréal Infallible 24 HR Eye Shadow in Liquid Diamond in the center of the lid. For the total shimmer effect, Marsh finished the eyes with Physicians Formula Custom Eye Enhancing Liquid Metal Eyeliner.

Bright Blush

Hot pink lips are one thing, but all that color on your cheeks can be whole different story. Because bright blush can easily take a turn into clown territory with one wrong sweep of the brush, we turned to Marsh to create this fresh summer look. She started by patting Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Hot Tamale into the skin and then bumped up the intensity with a dusting of Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Frisky. Finish off the look with luminizer to highlight the top of the cheekbones and browbones.

Neon Lips

We can’t help it if our obsession with neon carries over into cosmetics. Luckily, we had the talented makeup masterElyse Reneau on hand to show us how to wear the trend the right way. First, Reneau lined the outer perimeter of the lips with concealer to help keep the color from traveling (which is never a good look–neon or not). Then she filled in the lips with a hot pink lip pencil (try Yves Saint Laurent Dessin Des Levres Lip Liner in Fucshia or Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencil in Fuschia). When it comes to getting that color to pop, it’s all about layering. Reneau achieved this nonstop neon look by layering Maybelline Color Whisper in Faint for Fuchsia under MAC Lipstick in Candy Yum Yum.

Mega Eyelashes

Who could resist a set of flirty eyelashes on a fabulous summer evening? Reneau taught us that in order to bat our big, beautiful lashes we need to keep the rest of the eye makeup understated. A little neutral shadow and line of liquid eyeliner (Reneau loves pen liners like L’Oréal Infallible The Super Slim by Infallible Black to achieve this look) to conceal the base of your falsies is all you need. For mega lashes like you see here, Reneau recommends Miss Adoro Fashion Eyelashes 423 or Shu Uemura Black Velvet Feather False Eyelashes. While the glue is drying, remember to take this makeup artist advice and “blink softly.”
