TUTORIAL: TWO-TONE LIPS

by Deven Hopp

Beauty trends range from the fun and funky to the downright bizarre. Sometimes you don’t know where one falls until you try it out. The two-tone lips trend that seems to be flooding our Pinterest feed is the perfect example. And since we never shy away from a little color (or a lot), we thought we would give it a go. Let us know what you think of the look!

Directions
  1. Choose your combo. Pink and red; red and purple; purple and pink; pink and orange–the options are endless. We choose a punchy pink (L’Oréal Colour Riche Lipcolour in Miss Magenta) and a vivid orange (Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense in Satin Bright Orange).
Quick Tip: For a subtler look, choose two shades in the same color family. Try pairing a vibrant pink with a pale rose color, or a light cherry red with a deep crimson.
  1. Fill in Lips. Carefully apply your chosen colors, one shade for the top lip and the other for the bottom lip. (Need your lipstick to last all night long? Our Make it Last Tutorial has all the answers.)
  2. Maintain the distinction or blur the lines. If you want to keep the colors completely separate, blot each lip with a tissue and dust the lips with setting powder to prevent color transfer. If you like the color-fading look, lightly press lips together. To get the full effect, you may even want to blend a bit of the lighter lipstick onto the darker lip.
