I like to think of myself as a glamorous fashionista. And by glamorous fashionista I mean I’m a broke college student that would rather spend money on clothes than food. I know, I have a problem. When it comes to fall fashion trends, which ones are worth investing in? I recently took to Twitter to ask Lucky mag’s new Editor-in-Chief, Eva Chen, her thoughts on the issue, and to my surprise, she offered her expert advice! Whatever you do, make sure these 5 fall fashion trends are hanging in your 2’ X 4’ dorm closet.
1. Turtlenecks
Turtlenecks are okay on their own, but this fall they'll make a great layering piece. Layering in general is huge for fall, so instead of a basic long sleeve tee, try a warm and cozy turtleneck. Wear a turtleneck underneath a structured tee or a top with a scoop neck. Opt for something basic like this turtleneck from American Apparel, or oversized and chunky like the one seen on fashionista, Olivia Palermo. You'll make an otherwise uneventful fall staple look fashion forward.
2. A full skirt
Skirts are a great way to add a flair of femininity to your wardrobe. Full skirts are in for fall and even though they're simple, they make a statement. Choosing a high waisted skirt, like this one from ASOS, will nip you at your smallest point and give you an overall flattering look. These voluminous skirts looks great paired with striped tee's, patterned blouses, or denim button ups.
3. Leather leggings
I know what you're thinking, "Leather leggings, you're joking right?" Would I joke about fashion? Leggings are a staple in every college girl's wardrobe, and I'm not asking you to ditch them completely, just switch it up once in a while. Leather leggings add some edge to your outfit and with so many faux options, you can try them out guilt-free! These faux leather leggings from Topshop at Nordstom are getting rave reviews.
4. Shrunken sweaters
Crop tops have been a staple to everyone's summer wardrobes and in case you aren't ready to give them up, they're in for fall too... sort of. Shrunken sweaters are a slightly more modest way to carry the trend into fall. They're coming in all sorts of styles: turtleneck, oversized, and body con are among the most popular. If you're not sure about the trend for class, try pairing it with a skirt and textured tights for a sexy night out. I love this Rubbish crop pullover from Nordstrom.
5. Slip-on sneakers
You'll be doing so much walking around campus, why not invest in something comfortable and chic? Kate Spade and Keds have just teamed up to bring us the most perfect slip-on footwear. They'll make your heart flutter.
