GRADIENT WINGED EYELINER

Just when you get comfortable with your liquid eyeliner, the beauty world throws something new your way. This season, it’s gradient winged eyeliner. Before you freak out (or click back to Facebook), think about your average eye shadow application. There’s always a color gradation–pale shades in the inner corners build up to darker hues at the outer corners. So why not apply the same technique to your eyeliner? It’s easier than you might think. Pick the color that complements your eyes best and ombre away…

For our model Allison’s beautiful hazel eyes, professional makeup artist Elyse Reneau chose to work with shades of green.

1. Apply a line of white eyeliner all the way out, just as you would with your typical black winged eyeliner application. Reneau used Lime Crime Eyeliner in Lunar Sea.
2. Moving about 1/3 of the way out from the corner of your eye, apply the next shade of eyeliner on top of the white line. For the light green segment, Reneau chose Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Freak.
3. For the final color transition, go over the wing with the darkest shade. Starting in at the lash line, Reneau sweptUrban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Siren out to build up the wing.
4. Soften the color transitions with a smudger or eye shadow on a sponge applicator.

Expert Tip: To finish the look, darken the inside of the lash line. Use an angled brush to push black gel or cream eyeliner into the lashes. This will define eyes and make the lashes appear fuller.
