In response to her readers's request for a February 14th-themed look, Love, Shelbey... blogger Shelbey Ashburn created what she says is a "classic look that anyone could do." But "instead of using the usual red lip, I switched things up a bit and went for a romantic bold fuchsia," she adds. We spoke with Ashburn and got more of her tips on how to apply this makeup, from start to finish.
Step 1: Create a flawless canvas for your makeup by applying a full-coverage foundation. Try: bareMinerals Ready Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20. Tip: "I always make sure my skin is evened out as much as possible when going for a bold lip. It makes everything look so precise," Ashburn says.
Step 2: Blend a gold cream eye shadow on your lids, from lash lines to creases and along the inner corners of your eyes. Try: Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Bold Gold.
Step 3: Top the gold cream with a shimmery gold powder shadow. Try: bareMinerals Ready Eyeshadow 2.0 Duo in The Top Shelf. Use the gilded bronze shade.
Step 4: Highlight your brow bones with a white powder eye shadow. Try: L'Oréal Paris Studio Secrets Professional Eye Shadow Duos in Sand Dune. Use the vanilla shade.
Step 5: Line your top lash lines with black liner, winging it out past the outer corners of your eyes. Try: Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner. Tip: "My advice for people just starting out is, [use] a creamy gel liner you can apply with a liner brush," Ashburn says. "It allows you to form the shape that you want a lot easier than using a stick liner."
Step 6: Line your bottom lash lines and the inner rims (waterlines) of your eyes with the black liner.
Step 7: Apply black mascara to your top and bottom lashes. Try: Lancôme Hypnôse Custom Volume Mascara in Black.
Step 8: Sweep pink blush on the apples of your cheeks. Try: e.l.f. Studio Blush in Fuchsia Fusion. Tip: "Keep a lighter hand on the blush since the lips are on the brighter side," Ashburn says.
Step 9: Highlight your cheekbones with a shimmery powder. "I applied a little bit more than usual to give my skin more of a glowing effect," Ashburn says. Try: L'Oréal Paris Translucide Naturally Luminous Loose Powder.
Step 10: Complete the look by slicking on a bright fuchsia lip stain and topping it with a bit of gloss for a shiny finish.Try: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Smitten and bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Smooth Talker.
