10 Simple Ways to Live a Happier Life

We often let all the little things get in the way of living a happy life. Instead of focusing so much of our attention on outside distractions, we should work on finding what truly makes us happy. Here are 10 ways to simply live a happier life.
1.  Develop your own personal operating system.
Instead of simply accepting the beliefs of your family, peers, religion, or culture, don’t be afraid to challenge them. Take the time to carve out and define your own personal reality, philosophy, values, and interests.
2.  Begin to let go of the need for validation.
Looking for validation from others is such a huge waste of time. Instead focus your goals on what is important to you and the things you truly value. It should be easy to figure these out if you follow step 1. Make sure your actions aren’t solely motivated by the opinions of others and a need for recognition.
3.  Trust your instincts and allow for experimentation.
Learn to trust yourself. You might fail a few times, but you’ll start to understand how to follow your gut feeling.
4.  Accept others as they are.
So much disappointment in our lives is brought on by the expectations we put on others. Instead of focusing on their weaknesses or faults, celebrate their strengths. You’ll find that others will do the same for you.
5.  Really hear people.
Don’t listen idly. Make an effort to truly hear people. When someone opens up to you, let them know that even if you may not have the best advice or understand their motives, you respect them enough to listen and will be there for them.
6.  Take care of unresolved matters in your life.
Forgive where necessary. What would you let go of today that is holding you back? For many of us, there is unresolved anger in our pasts that we need to let go of. Do it. And ask for forgiveness for yourself when necessary, and finally reclaim all the time and energy you’ve given to these matters by not moving on already.
7.  Embrace a healthy lifestyle.
Eat to support your body, and not your emotions. Choose healthy, natural and minimally processed foods. Get some form of exercise daily. But, do this out of respect for yourself and your body, not to impress others.
8.  Cause things to happen.
Don’t be a passive member of your own life. Put forth in motion things you want to see happen. Become an instigator and a collaborator. Don’t hide your enthusiasm either.
9.  Show people you care.
Don’t be afraid to let someone know you care for them. And show them, even if it’s the simplest gesture, they will appreciate it.
10. Laugh easily.
Find joy in the little things and have a lightness about you. Don’t take life so seriously. You’ll emanate a positive energy that will attract other happy, positive people.
