How to Learn to Appreciate Your Natural Beauty

As much as I love my collection of hair care products, bold eye shadows and black mascaras, there really isn't anything better than inner beauty. Sure, it’s a lot of fun to get dolled up with our favorite makeup, but let’s not forget how amazing and beautiful our skin can be on its own. Read on for tips on how to let you inner beauty shine, and how to help others radiate theirs.
Appreciate the Skin You’re In

As young women, we are constantly told to buy certain products to get a summer glow or flawless skin, but isn’t it a nice feeling when you can finally accept your skin just as it is? Whichever skin tone you have, whether it’s light ivory or dark ebony, you’re so beautiful as you are, so don’t buy into the idea that you have to be tanner or paler to be gorgeous.
It’s OK to go Without Makeup
Whether you leave your house sans makeup for a day, a week, a month or a whole summer, don’t be ashamed! There are plenty of girls that feel the need to “put on their face,” every day before leaving the house, but it’s good to give your skin and eyes a break sometimes. Also, it’s important to realize how pretty you are without makeup before you truly enjoy makeup for what it is. Otherwise, you may pile it on in hopes of “hiding” your features, rather than amplifying them. Strive to be the woman who takes off her makeup at night and still feels as gorgeous as when it was on, because you totally are!
…..and Nail Polish

If anyone is addicted to nail polish, it’s me. I have over 100 different polishes and counting, hundreds of pins on my “Nails” board on Pinterest and a whole crew of friends I give weekly manicures to. Even though all of this is true, it’s important to know when to draw the line. If you’re constantly painting your nails to try and hide them, you don’t have to! Just like the rest of yourself, your nails are fine as they are, plus it’s important to take a break for nail polish sometimes in order to allow your nails to have some room to breathe, especially if you use an acetone-based polish remover.
…..and Hair Products
I’m also a product junky when it comes to my hair! As we style and tend to our locks, let’s remember that their texture is all our own. For those with curls wishing they had sleek and straight strands, or the straight haired girls wishing for the opposite, allow today to be the day that you recognize how awesome your natural texture is.
Smile Often and Laugh Proudly
Your fluttery laugh and big grin are such lovely parts of your personality, so why not let them show! As the saying goes, a bright and happy smile really is the best makeup that you can wear.
See the Beauty in Others
When you recognize how lovely your friends look, they’ll appreciate your kindness and their confidence will rise. The photo above is when I went out with three of my friends (one not shown) in March, and we all were without makeup and still enjoyed every minute of our time together, recognizing each other's radiant personalities. It’s always nice to receive a genuine compliment from someone, so don’t be afraid to give one to someone today! Also, try not to point out when a friend isn't wearing makeup or nail polish if she’s constantly one to be dolled up; she definitely is already aware of it and it might be a sensitive subject to her, so instead of saying, “Why aren't your nails painted?” to your manicure diva girlfriend, simply give her a compliment instead, or ask her how her day is going.
Ladies, let us never forget that confidence is key, and happiness is a must. Allow yourself to define your own definition of inner, natural beauty and remember its importance as you continue to live every day. Let’s continue to participate in Manicure Monday and show off our new makeup, but let’s never forget how beautiful we already are!
